Research funding in the Post-Election Analysis

Several days ago (it seems like a world away now), I posted links to several articles on the candidates’ positions on science and health issues. Now there are a couple of good articles in Nature and Science considering what Obama’s victory means for scientific research. (These were originally posted at 3 Quarks Daily).

On a related note, I haven’t looked into this at all but does anyone know whether Obama or anyone on his team has made any statements in regard to the Department of Defense’s Minerva Research Initiative? Are we likely to see any changes in this program with the new administration? Given that the president-elect’s mother, Ann Dunham, was an anthropologist, one would hope that he has a somewhat critical view on the problematic relationship between social science and the state which program is likely to encourage.

The SSRC has just put up an excellent-looking website full of essays on Minerva, but I haven’t had time to read any of them yet.
